Introduction to the Prested family
The
Prested family has been based in London since moving from Northamptonshire in
the early 18th century. They are probably best known in relation to
building and renovating organs, especially in the Durham area, to where some of
the family moved in the early 20th century. The involvement in organs dates back
to at least the middle of the 19th century, however.
Some members
of the family emigrated to Australia, Canada and the United States, and they have been included
here, where known.
As far as I can tell, ALL the Presteds are related to this family shown here, but I have not fixed one or two links yet. Obviously, if you can help, don't hesitate to contact me.
NEW: I have added a Tree Diagram (see links at the top of page), a pdf which shows the family in a more traditional family tree manner. I have suppressed any full birth dates I know for people who are or could be still alive. This is quite a substantial file - about 1MB in size, so beware if you have a slow internet connection! (added January 22, 2010)
The following families are linked to the Presteds and have at least a small tree to view.
