One of the
best remembered of Britain's post-WWII record labels, Vogue concentrated
on Jazz for its issues, generally current Jazz, rather than pre-war
jazz reissues, but also issued some series of pop and hill-billy material,
as well as the gospel singing of Mahalia Jackson. The label started in France in 1947, but the UK version started in 1951 and continued on into the 45rpm-era. The jazz records have a V-2000 catalogue number running up to about V-2400. Initially, the main label colour was orange, changing to pink at about V-2115 (the highest I've seen). Any repressings of the earlier issues also had the pink label design. There were three other series: The V-300 issues are of gospel musis, usually with a green label. The V-9000 series, which have blue labels, cover pop and country music. The label changed to be "Vogue Pop" at number V-9105 and the label became black with silver printing. The KJ- series used masters from "King Jazz". I only have two so I don't know how far this series went. Thanks to Richard Prout for the improved Vogue Pop image. |
Please e-mail me if you can help me fill in the gaps in any of these series.
I must give credit to the www.45worlds.com website which has a partial listing of the label, from which I have been able to surmise much of what I have written above and also add greatly to the listings below.
Thanks to the following people who have also provided information for this page: Trevor Astell, Paul Bell, Dave Chichester, Bill Dean-Myatt, Chris East, Mike Jones, Sue McIntyre, Albert Pattison, Richard Prout, Ian Smalley

The V-2000 series are the more usual jazz issues.
The
first records were issued with orange labels, but later pressings had the more
usual deep pink label. The highest orange one I've seen is V-2115.

The V-2000 series continued to V-2419, issued in 1961 but I don't know at what point the last 78rpm records were issued.
The V-9000 series seems to be more Popular &
folk music. Light blue label, but later pressings have the deep pink label.
These were issued from
August 1951 to the end of 1959 in 78rpm form.
