Robeyphone Grand records were sold by Chas. T. Robey of
Coventry along with Gramophones of the same make and needles. The records used "Jumbo" (i.e. Odeon) masters in the Lxo- series. Although the label mentions no country of manufacture, they were almost certainly made by Crystalate in Kent and date from pre-WWI. As you can see from the listing below, knowledge of the catalogue is very scant, though it seems the catalogue numbers match those of "Jumbo", but it seems unlikely, given how scarce Robeyphone records have always been, that the whole "Jumbo" catalogue was also pressed up as "Robeyphone Grand" records. Hence this listing. There are one or two differences with the Jumbo issues, but they may be mis-reportings. However, I am not assuming anything without actual sightings of the records! Thanks to Adam Miller for providing the label scan. |
This is a first attempt at a listing. Please e-mail me if you can help me fill in the gaps in any of these series.
