Musician, sound restorer and vintage jazz
enthusiast, John R.T. Davies was responsible for the Ristic issues. These
were high-quality transfers ("dubs") from extremely rare 1920s Jazz and
Blues originals. Some Ristics were 45rpm, 10" diameter, with two tracks each side
(It is obvious in the listing below which those are) . All were pressed in vinyl and only 99 copies (at most) of each issue were produced. I have now added the LP issues; the lowest number of these I have is No. 17. The first Ristics were produced in the early 1950s, and the series continued until the early 1970s, with the last one dating from 1981, but please let me know if you have any more accurate information. The LPs all have published dates on the labels, which I show in the extreme right-hand column. In order to get around the tax issues on producing more than 99 copies, subsequent copies were pressed with the "Bateau Chinois" (Chinese Junk) label, with letter-coded catalogue "numbers". Details in brackets are taken from these re-pressings and may be different from the Ristic original. I understand that all Ristic records, and probably all the other records which John R.T. had pressed over the years were pressed at British Homophone's factory. The name "Ristic" was John R.T.'s nickname as a youngster, I believe. |
Please e-mail me if you can help me fill in any of the gaps.
Thanks to the following for helping with this listing: Roland Birchby, Colin Bray, Robert Girling, Ray Mitchell
