Redwing

A pretty obscure label, Redwing dates from the early 1930s and was produced by British Homophone using matrices also issued on Sterno.
The trade mark was registered in January 1933 by Gallaghers Ltd, the Belfast cigarette manufacturer. Redwing records could be obtained by exchanging coupons found in Park Drive cigarettes. 175 coupons bought 2 records. Sounds like a lot of smoking was required to get the prize, assuming only one coupon was included in each packet!
From the "Public Performance is prohibited" wording around the foot of the label, the records must date from after March 1934, though the recordings were, by that time, a few years old. However, I believe the records were first mentioned in an advert in late January 1933.
The catalogue numbers started at R-1000, and the highest traced and shown in my listing is R-1023. My guess is that the coupon deal was quite short lived, given that only 24 different records were available.

Please e-mail me if you can help me fill in the gaps in any of these series.
