Dating from pre-WWI,
these were made in Germany. Catalogue numbers are not always shown, but
when they are, are in a 3-digit series. Some of the labels show the
titles and artists in both English and German. The label appears to use various sources for the masters. The only ones I've identified are the British-recorded ones for Globophon. These are in a 6000-series and when shown in the wax (i.e. in the surface of the record) they are followed by "kv". On the label, they are generally, if not always, prefixed by the number 8. Other matrix numbers are shown in the wax with a 3000-series, but on the label are embedded within a 10- prefix and a single-number suffix to make a 7-digit code. The later examples seen have a plum-coloured label instead of green. I have not seen enough of these records to be sure that this was a permanent colour change from a particular catalogue number, or whether it applied as a temporary measure. Thanks to Rainer Lotz for the label scan of the green label. |
This is a first attempt at a listing. Please e-mail me if you can help me fill in the gaps in any of these series.
My thanks to
Frank Andrews
in providing most of the information for this page. I've also added information
from a trade magazine, which didn't give details of the performers!
