One of the
many smaller records manufactured by Crystalate in the 1920s, Kiddyphone
is obviously aimed at the very young, but the records are of the same
fare as other small records of the time: dance band, military bands,
banjo solos and ballads. Kiddyphone records exist in three sizes: 5½", 6" and 7". The 5½" & 7" series seem to date from the same period (1924-1926), with the 6" ones appearing slightly later (probably Christmas 1926 - 1930). Confusingly, all three series are numbered from 1. The label design was the same for all sizes, though some had a white title area rather than yellow. Oddly these seem to be from a "middle" period, as though the company changed the colour then decided to switch back to yellow. The Kiddyphone gramophone which was also available (see image) was probably made in Germany by Bing Toys, but I'm sure someone will confirm that or correct me! |
Much of the original listing is based
on data from the late Arthur Badrock, most notably details of recordings
dates and actual artists' identities. Much of this is from copies of the
original recording ledgers and aural research.
Please
e-mail
me if you have any further information, but do remember to say what size the
record is, please!.
