Founded in May 1949, this
label specialized in reissuing rare jazz classics from the 1920s. It was
made for the Jazz Art Society of 65, Bramber Road, West Kensington,
London. The catalogue numbers started at L-1 and ran up to nearly L-140. All were dubs taken from the originals and vary somewhat in
quality. The records cost 7/6. The last Jazz Collectors records were
issued in 1954. The early issues are labelled "Jazz Selection"; the label name was probably changed from this due to there already being a label with this name reissuing early jazz recordings. Later pressings give the address as "Jazz Selection, 100, Charing Cross Road, London W.C.2", and some labels have an additional credit "Selected by Jazz Record Retailers Association". |
Please e-mail me if you can help me fill in any gaps.
My thanks to the following for their help: Bill Dean-Myatt, Graham Farnell, Robert Girling, Mike Jones, Steve Walker
