Home Page  Records British Dance Bands Sound Files Contact Me
The publishing house De Wolfe issued Hudson records, which appeared first in 1934, issuing mainly light classical and strict-tempo dance music. Some of the dance records are by bands which made no other recordings, such as Howard Baker and his Orchestra, whose singer on record was a very young Vera Lynn, making her first recording. Some (I think the ealier ones) are labelled "Trusound - The Hudson Record", made for Cinemas and distributed by Winads Ltd. Hudsons are quite scarce and the label was only around for a few years.

Source material for the label varied, but included masters from Filmophone, Edison Bell, the original Trusound (all of whom had gone out of business by this time) and also some continental sources. I think the AGH- matrix numbers were mainly also from Edison Bell, but renumbered.

There appears to be one main numerical catalogue series with various prefixes depending on the source, However, the catalogue series is much more complicated than it seems and I think we need more records located to work out exactly what was happening.

Prefix letters: WC = unidentified; WE = Edison Bell; WF = Filmophone; WG = unidetified; WH = Hudson originals and some Ediosn Bell; WT = Trusound; WP = Porret; HEB = Edison Bell.

A later DH-series of string tempo dance music are listed at the end of this page.

The initial information for this listing was from research done by Ernie Bayley & Frank Andrews in the 1970s.
